Prospect Park Alliance Connects Conservation and Community

Prospect Park Alliance, the caretaker of Brooklyn's 585-acre green oasis, serves over 460,000 people annually with free education, recreation, and volunteer programs. The organisation connects conservation with community engagement, making it inclusive and equitable.

Prospect Park, a haven for biodiversity, hosts over 240 species of birds and several other fauna, including vital pollinators. During spring migration, over 36 different species of warblers can be spotted. Some trees in its forest, a rare gem in New York City, are estimated to be around 250 years old.

Urban green spaces like Prospect Park provide numerous benefits. They help offset urban heat islands, capture greenhouse gas emissions, control stormwater surges, and offer mental health benefits. New York City, with 27% of its land reserved as public green space, is one of the greenest cities in the world.

The Prospect Park Alliance's work aligns with the America the Beautiful for All Coalition, aiming to achieve conservation goals through equitable and community-led practices. Their efforts ensure that green spaces, like Prospect Park, remain accessible and beneficial to all.
