The much-anticipated production of the Sono Sion, a solar electric vehicle (SEV) developed by Sono Motors, is set to start in 2023 at Valmet Automotive in Finland[1]. This shift in plans from the original 2022 start date was announced recently.

Valmet Automotive, a well-established contract manufacturer and supplier, is no stranger to the automotive industry, having previously produced vehicles for brands like Mercedes and Lightyear[1]. Sono Motors has chosen Valmet Automotive as their manufacturing partner for the Sion, marking a significant step towards the mass production of solar-powered vehicles.

Sono Group N.V., the company behind the Sion, is on a mission to accelerate the revolution of mobility by making every vehicle solar[2]. Their disruptive solar technology is engineered to be seamlessly integrated into various vehicle architectures, extending vehicle range, reducing fuel costs, and decreasing CO2 emissions[3].

The Sion will be equipped with integrated sharing options, allowing owners to share the vehicle, individual journeys, or energy via a mobile application[4]. It will also have a bidirectional charging function, enabling it to both receive and supply electricity, power electrical devices independently, and feed energy to other vehicles or into the electricity grid[5].

The Sion will be rolled out in one single variant version costing 25,500 euros for its market launch[6]. With approximately 9,800 partially paid preorders already secured[7], it's clear that there is significant demand for sustainable and efficient mobility solutions.

Sono Group's stock is traded on the OTCQB under the symbol SEVCF[2]. Investor-related inquiries can be directed to ir@our website, while press-related inquiries can be directed to press@our website[8].

After the ramp-up period, approximately 43,000 Sion vehicles will be manufactured in two-shift operations annually[9]. The first series production of the Sion will be manufactured in Trollhättan, Sweden, marking a significant milestone in the company's mission to pave the way for climate-friendly mobility[10].

In addition to the Sion, Sono Group also plans to develop other vehicle models based on the Sion's platform[11]. This expansion into multiple vehicle models demonstrates the company's commitment to a sustainable future and their belief that solar power is the key to the next generation of mobility.
