Prepared for the 2024 Season: Seattle Seahawks Implement Innovative Tech Enhancements
In the heart of Seattle, the iconic Lumen Field is undergoing a massive technology upgrade, focusing on enhancing the fan experience for the 2024 NFL season. The project, led by the SCN Top 50 integrator Diversified, aims to modernise the stadium's audio system, making it a key element of the game presentation with full-range, impactful music support.
At the forefront of this transformation is d&b audiotechnik, a renowned name in the audio industry. Known for their precision sound and scalable line arrays, their advanced loudspeaker technology has been chosen to deliver consistent full-bandwidth pattern control and powerful low-frequency impact throughout the stadium.
The new system, driven by 148 d&b audiotechnik amplifiers, includes nearly 500 loudspeakers, with the SL-Series and XSLi-SUB being the main components. To cater to Seattle's unique environmental factors, such as rain and the corrosive salt content of coastal air, d&b ArrayProcessing was utilised to compensate for weather conditions and adjust for warm summers and cold, rainy winters.
Chip Suttles, vice president of technology for the Seahawks, Lumen Field, and the Lumen Field Event Center, noted the immediate clarity, sound quality, and impact of the new d&b audiotechnik sound system. He stated that the new system could be the biggest and best enhancement to the stadium to date, setting a new standard for fan engagement and audio quality.
Diversified and d&b audiotechnik worked together in designing and deploying the new sound system, including creating a custom user interface within the d&b R1 remote control software platform. The installation required optimization using d&b audiotechnik ArrayProcessing for equal distribution throughout the stadium.
The Seahawks' Fanovation Project, commemorating Lumen Field's 20th anniversary, also includes new bowl lighting, LED elements, Amazon "Just Walk Out" stores, suite renovations, and refreshed premium lounges and club-level spaces. With these upgrades, Lumen Field can now go head-to-head in audio quality against any stadium built in recent years.
