Power consumers face potential fines of up to 30,000 rubles
In Yakutsk, violators of electric scooter usage rules face penalties ranging from 10,000 to 30,000 rubles. The penalties are imposed for offenses such as riding with multiple passengers and not adhering to traffic regulations, according to Roman Bakulin, operational manager of Whoosh in Yakutsk.
Since May 11, 128 fines have been issued to offenders, with 475 users temporarily blocked. The fines for improper parking, failing to slow down at crossings, and riding with more than one passenger vary. In severe cases, especially when an adult passes a scooter to a minor, the fine can reach 30,000 rubles. Violations are instantly recorded and deducted from the offender's account.
As of May 28, residents and visitors to Yakutsk have made 99,698 trips on electric scooters. The city currently has 1,200 scooters, with 900 operational at any given time while the remaining are under maintenance.
Bakulin emphasized that many users disregard the rules, prompting the need for constant monitoring. A city team is actively enforcing rules, and violations can also be reported through a public chat or a Telegram bot named samokat_ru_bot.
In an effort to educate users, a "Riding School" for electric scooter users is scheduled for June 7. Participants will have to pass a test on safe scooter usage in a created road environment. The location of the school will be announced separately.
Smart-home devices and gadgets can be used to monitor electric scooter usage in Yakutsk, enhancing the city's technology-driven approach to transportation and law enforcement. For instance, smart-home cameras can capture violations instantly, and gadgets like smartphones can be utilized to report offenses through the samokat_ru_bot or a public chat.
