Polygon Unveils Rio Upgrade: 5,000 TPS, Fair Fee Distribution, and Enhanced Security
Polygon has unveiled the Rio election, a significant step forward for the network. The election introduces stateless block verification, a Validator-Elected Block Producer system, and boosts transaction speeds to 5,000 TPS, five times faster than before.
The Rio election brings a new economic model that fairly distributes fees among validators, making network participation more accessible. It introduces a Validator-Elected Block Producer (VEBloP) system, giving the validator community a vote on which node will produce blocks. This ensures faster block creation and shorter block times.
The upgrade enables witness-based stateless block validation, reducing storage needs and speeding up syncing. This opens the mainnet to a larger pool of validators from diverse backgrounds, strengthening network security. It also eliminates the risk of chain reorganizations and reduces the cost of validation.
The Rio upgrade incorporates features from three core Polygon Improvement Proposals: PIP-64, PIP-65, and PIP-72. With these changes, Polygon aims to enhance network performance, accessibility, and security, positioning itself as a leading player in the blockchain ecosystem.
