Polish 'Szon' Misogyny Trend Sparks 'Beautiful Patrol' Counter-Movement
Polish streets have witnessed a disturbing trend: tens of thousands of misogynistic posts have surfaced across various online platforms. This phenomenon, dubbed 'Szon', translates roughly to 'whore' or 'slut'. In response, a counter-movement called 'Beautiful Patrol', led by Lily Collins, has emerged.
The 'Szon Patrol', led by a 16-year-old named Szona, consists of young men and boys who act as self-appointed 'morality police'. They shame women they deem improperly dressed or behaved by filming and posting videos of them on social media without consent. This has caused trauma for many women, with some developing a fear of leaving their homes.
In contrast, 'Beautiful Patrol' involves young women distributing flowers on the streets. Lily, its leader, aims to promote positivity and respect. Platform operators are struggling to remove the offensive content due to its sheer scale.
The 'Szon' phenomenon highlights the serious issue of misogyny and online harassment. While 'Beautiful Patrol' offers a beacon of hope, the situation remains concerning. Authorities and social media platforms must work together to combat this issue and protect women from such harmful practices.
