Paramount Corporation Suffered a Cyber Attack Over Christmas, Informs Affected Individuals One Year After Incident

National Amusements, the powerhouse behind Paramount, CBS, and a plethora of U.S. theaters, faced an unauthorized network intrusion back in December 2022. Still, it took them a year to spill the beans about the potential data breach, affecting a whopping 82,128 individuals.

The multimedia titan, in a letter to those affected, acknowledged an "unauthorized individual" had gained access to their systems on Dec 13, 2022, and they were aware of this intrusion merely two days later. The company enlisted a third-party firm to investigate and only recently wrapped up the review. The company intrusion became apparent on August 23 of this year, which could hint at the conclusion of the investigation.

National Amusements is offering impacted individuals complimentary credit monitoring services via Experian for different durations. As per Maine law, companies must disclose data breaches when personal information is pilfered. They also have to conduct a comprehensive investigation and divulge the findings to the state. However, little is known about the Paramount Global security breach that took place in August, as reported by TechCrunch.

Details about the lengthy delay in disclosing the hack are scant, with National Amusements remain tight-lipped on the subject. The media powerhouse assured that no evidence pointed towards identity theft or fraud related to the hack and emphasized their seriousness towards data security.

Paramount did not respond to queries about the May hack, leaving questions unanswered regarding potential Paramount+ customer involvement. Interestingly, Paramount recently announced its partnership with Showtime, aiming to rebrand their combined package as "Paramount+ with Showtime." The company is also rumored to explore offering bundles with Apple TV to garner more viewer attention.

Paramount has been grappling with challenges. The streaming platform has been busy trimming down the number of movies available for streaming by half. Shari Redstone, the heir of the family that bought Paramount Pictures in 1994, is reportedly mulling over selling her family's stake in National Amusements. Warner Bros. Discovery is among the potential suitors, a name that's causing quite a stir in Hollywood circles due to its contentious, multi-billion-dollar merger. The merger has taken a toll on once-revered brands like HBO, sparking a strange blend of laughter and despair.
