OpenAI's $4.3B H1 2025 Revenue; Potential Sale Could Make It World's Most Valuable Startup

OpenAI, the trailblazing AI research firm, has generated a staggering $4.3 billion in revenue in just the first half of 2025. Meanwhile, its rival Anthropic has raised a whopping $13 billion, valuing the company at $183 billion. In a significant development, a potential sale of OpenAI shares could make it the world's most valuable startup, surpassing SpaceX.

OpenAI's revenue surge comes as it plans massive spending on computing infrastructure, running into hundreds of billions over the coming years. Nvidia has pledged an investment worth up to $100 billion, raising concerns about a potential bubble in the generative AI sector.

The reported share sale, valued at $6.6 billion, includes investments from prominent backers such as SoftBank, Thrive Capital, Dragoneer, and MGX from Abu Dhabi. SoftBank, which previously committed $40 billion to OpenAI by the end of 2025, is also part of this round. This investment, contingent on OpenAI's restructuring as a for-profit company, would value the firm at $300 billion.

If the share sale is confirmed, OpenAI could become the world's most valuable startup, reflecting the growing interest and investment in AI technology. However, the rapid pace of funding and valuation increases has sparked concerns about a potential market bubble in the generative AI sector.
