OpenAI Unveils GPT-5-Codex: A Major Boost for AI Coding Collaboration
OpenAI has rolled out a significant update for its AI coding agent, Codex. The new version, GPT-5-Codex, brings enhancements to the user interface, tool calls, and more. It's designed to improve collaboration between developers and the AI agent.
GPT-5-Codex, an optimized version of OpenAI's latest GPT-5 models, excels in code refactoring and reviews, boasting a low error rate and insightful comments. It uses an AGENT.md file to guide its actions and combines two key skills: working with developers and independent execution.
The update includes a revamped Codex CLI focused on agentic workflows. It also introduces a new IDE extension, GitHub integration for code reviews, and workflow updates to the Codex web. Users can now share images with the coding agent for additional context.
OpenAI has improved Codex's cloud infrastructure, reducing the median completion time for tasks and follow-ups by 90%. The update also features a router designed specifically for Codex, which will soon be available in the OpenAI API.
Access to Codex is included with OpenAI's ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Edu, and Enterprise plans, with usage limits scaling based on the plan.
The launch of GPT-5-Codex brings notable improvements to OpenAI's AI coding agent. With enhanced performance, user experience, and integration capabilities, it promises to boost productivity and collaboration among developers and AI agents.
