OpenAI Launches o1 Model, ChatGPT Pro; Google Leads AI App Market Growth
OpenAI has published the full version of its AI model, o1, and introduced ChatGPT Pro for $200 per month. Meanwhile, Meta AI's growth has slowed following an incident in June 2025. The AI consumer app market is consolidating, with Google placing four products on the web list for the first time, led by Gemini in second place behind ChatGPT.
Only 11 new names have made it onto the web list of the Top 100 Gen AI Consumer Apps compared to the previous edition from March 2025. Three Chinese companies, Quark (Alibaba) at 9th, Doubao (Bytedance) at 12th, and Kimi (Moonshot AI) at 17th, are represented in the web top 20. Grok has reached 4th place on the web and 23rd on mobile, growing to over 20 million monthly active users in less than a year. Approximately 22 of the 50 most popular mobile apps come from China, while only three are primarily used in China. AI Studio debuted in the top 10, and NotebookLM follows in 13th place, both catering to AI enthusiasts. The mobile list has 14 new entries, partly due to app store measures against 'ChatGPT copies'. After two and a half years of data collection, the AI app market is beginning to stabilize.
OpenAI's latest offerings and Google's strong showing indicate a vibrant AI app market. The presence of Chinese companies in the top 20 highlights the global competition. As the market stabilizes, niche tools like AI Studio and NotebookLM gain traction, catering to AI enthusiasts. Despite Meta AI's slowdown, the AI app landscape remains dynamic and diverse.
