Ofcom Awards 7 More Small-Scale DAB Licences, Expanding UK's Digital Radio Network

Ofcom has recently awarded small-scale DAB multiplex licenses for seven more areas across the United Kingdom, paving the way for the launch of over 100 multiplexes in total. This innovative technology offers a low-cost digital broadcasting solution for local commercial, community, and specialist music services.

The licenses have been granted to various companies. Red Army Group will serve Stockton-on-Tees, while Craoladh Digiteach Ionadail Limited is set for the Western Isles. North Somerset Digital Radio Limited will cover Weston-super-Mare. Meanwhile, Maxxwave Limited has been awarded licenses for Banbury and Bicester, and Rugby and Daventry. UlsterMUX Limited will operate in Enniskillen, and Murfin Digital Limited in Worcester. So far, 75 multiplexes have begun broadcasting, reaching listeners across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

With these new licenses, the United Kingdom's small-scale DAB network continues to expand, offering more listeners access to diverse local radio services. The total number of multiplexes is expected to reach over 100, further enriching the United Kingdom's digital radio landscape.
