Ocean Outdoor Expands to Germany, Bringing Innovative DOOH Ads
London-based Ocean Outdoor, a pioneer in unique outdoor advertising, is expanding into Germany. The company aims to establish two to three premium locations in each top-10 city, prioritising sustainable growth over rapid expansion.
Ocean Outdoor's approach in Germany involves collaborating with private real estate developers. The company aims to provide social value through its screens, demonstrating the creative potential of digital out-of-home (DOOH) advertising.
The company's strategy is led by CEO Stephen Joseph, who joined Ocean Outdoor in 2008. He initially served as CFO, later becoming COO, and now leads the company.
Ocean Outdoor is developing 'DeepScreen Alive', a technology that combines 3D content with interaction via smartphones, gaming consoles, or social media. This innovation showcases the company's commitment to pushing the boundaries of DOOH advertising.
In 2018, Ocean Outdoor was sold to investment fund Searchlight Capital. The company now operates in seven markets, with 4000 screens, and Germany is the next stop for expansion. Ocean Outdoor entered the German market by rebuilding the company from scratch, rather than acquiring an existing company.
Ocean Outdoor's next steps in Germany include securing further spaces in Berlin, Munich, and Frankfurt. The company aims to create fewer but spectacular projects, demonstrating the flexibility and integration of its digital outdoor advertising campaigns in major European markets.
