NHTSA Probes Nissan Engine Failure Issues Affecting 450K Vehicles

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is concluding a preliminary evaluation into engine failure issues impacting nearly half a million Nissan vehicles. The investigation, launched late last year, is based on reports of 1,878 incidents, including 12 crashes or fires.

Nissan has already initiated a recall in June to address the engine failure problem in certain models. The affected vehicles include the popular Nissan Altima, Rogue, and Sentra, all from the 2023 model year. The NHTSA probe suggests that engine failures could result in loss of motive power and engine knocking noises. In severe cases, internal component damage to the engine block can cause engine oil to reach hot surfaces, potentially leading to a fire.

The NHTSA is currently reviewing 454,840 vehicles as part of this investigation. Owners of affected vehicles are advised to check for recall notices and follow the recommended safety precautions.

The NHTSA's preliminary evaluation into Nissan's engine failure issues is nearing completion. With the potential for serious consequences, including crashes and fires, owners of affected vehicles should take immediate action to ensure their safety. Nissan and the NHTSA will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
