Next-generation Zhaoxin CPUs from China are narrowing the performance gap against AMD, boasting 96 cores, 12-channel DDR5 memory, and 128 PCIe 5.0 lanes.

At the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) 2025, Chinese fabless semiconductor company Zhaoxin and Lisuan Technology made significant strides in hardware development. The two companies announced the KaiXian KX-7000N and Kaisheng KH-50000 processors, each designed to push the boundaries of technology and bring China closer to technological independence from the West.

The Kaisheng KH-50000, a new server chip, adopts a new microarchitecture beyond the Yongfeng core design of its predecessor, the KH-40000. This redesigned, more advanced core architecture significantly improves throughput and I/O capabilities, making it suitable for high-performance and server tasks. The KH-50000 offers 128 PCIe 5.0 lanes and support for 12-channel DDR5 ECC memory, aligning its performance and features closely with AMD’s EPYC 9004 (Genoa) series. It boasts up to 96 cores and 384MB of L3 cache, six times greater than that of the KH-40000, operating at a range between 2.2 GHz and 3.0 GHz.

The KaiXian KX-7000N, on the other hand, is based on the KaiXian KX-7000 but with an added NPU for AI tasks. This marks Zhaoxin's first chip to feature an NPU. Enhanced support for PCIe 5.0 and more cores compared to the current KX-7000 model further solidify its position in the market.

Both companies have emphasised their focus on creating reliable products that deliver a decent computing experience. The Kaisheng KH-50000 and KaiXian KX-7000N are no exception, as they are designed to meet the demands of modern computing, from server workloads to AI-focused tasks.

These advancements in hardware technology by Zhaoxin and Lisuan Technology are a testament to China's growing prowess in the global tech landscape. As they continue to push the boundaries of what's possible, we can expect to see more innovative products that challenge the status quo and drive technological progress.

Data-and-cloud-computing advancements, driven by the Kaisheng KH-50000 server chip and the KaiXian KX-7000N processor, promise to revolutionize the technology landscape in China. These new products, which exhibit improvements in throughput, I/O capabilities, and AI performance, are poised to offer a competitive edge in the global tech market.
