Munich Airport Unveils New Electric Vehicle Charging Station Complex
Munich Airport, a hub for global travel, is now a pioneer in e-mobility as well. The airport has recently opened a new electric vehicle charging park in parking garage P44, marking a significant step forward in promoting state-of-the-art drive systems.
The inauguration of this impressive facility was attended by key figures, including Bavarian Minister-President Dr. Markus Soeder, the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Munich Airport, Minister of State for Finance and Home Affairs Albert Fuhracker, and Munich Airport CEO Jost Lammers.
The charging park, which is already the largest in Bavaria, boasts 275 charging points, each with a nominal output of 11kW and a maximum output of up to 22kW. Visitors can charge their vehicles at one of the 138 charging stations provided on Level 4 of the P44 parking garage.
The charging park is powered by photovoltaic systems on the roofs of P44 and P43 parking garages, contributing to Munich Airport's commitment to renewable energies. In total, the photovoltaic systems consist of 7,216 PV modules, each with a total maximum output of three megawatts.
Munich Airport has invested roughly 5.2 million EUR into this project, demonstrating its dedication to e-mobility. Notably, the airport does not charge for parking for electric cars, making it even more attractive for eco-conscious travellers.
This development is part of Bavaria's massive expansion of e-mobility and renewable energies. Bavaria, the German federal state with the most electric cars and the most charging points, aims to triple the number of charging points by 2030.
With this new facility, Munich Airport now offers charging capacity for over 1,440 vehicles, playing a crucial role in Bavaria's e-mobility revolution.
