Munich Airport Shut Down Twice by Mystery Drones in Two Days
Munich Airport has temporarily ceased operations due to the presence of several unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The incident occurred on October 3 and again on October 4, causing temporary closures. The origin and operators of the drones remain unknown.
The first UAVs were spotted as early as 19:30 local time on October 3, hovering over the airbase in Erding, eight kilometers from Munich Airport. They initially circled over German Armed Forces facilities before approaching the airport. Both runways were closed, leading to the cancellation of around 20 scheduled flights.
On October 4, the airport once again temporarily suspended operations due to unidentified drones. Europe is planning to cooperate with Ukraine and Israel to combat such incidents. The German air traffic control, police, and federal police conducted searches but found no trace of the drones. The prosecution is involved in investigations, but no perpetrators have been identified so far.
Munich Airport has been affected by two incidents involving unidentified drones in quick succession. The closures have caused disruption to flights, with around 20 cancellations on October 3 alone. Authorities are working to identify the drones and their operators, with Europe planning international cooperation to combat such incidents.
