In a move to enhance the HDR viewing experience on its QD-OLED displays, MSI has announced the rollout of its proprietary EOTF Boost technology. This update, aimed at addressing visual flaws in some official HDR modes, will be available through firmware updates this month.

The EOTF Boost mode is designed to provide the best visual experience from both the official HDR Peak 1000 and HDR True Black 500 modes simultaneously. While the official HDR Peak 1000 mode offers high brightness, it is susceptible to noticeable brightness dimming depending on the scene. On the other hand, the official HDR True Black modes are less susceptible to brightness dimming but lack higher brightness functionality. EOTF Boost addresses these issues by delivering higher brightness under the same APL conditions compared to HDR 1000, while almost entirely neutralizing brightness dimming.

The update will be available for several MSI models, including the MAG 322UP E16, MAG 272QP X50, MAG 271QP X28, and MAG 272QPW X28. These models will experience an improvement in brightness up to 1000 nits, addressing the panel dimming issue common in QD-OLED displays.

For those without supported MSI monitors, the EOTF Boost feature will be available through new firmware updates this month. MSI shared a press release about the EOTF Boost feature on Reddit last month, providing a sneak peek into its potential benefits.

It's worth noting that EOTF Boost is not an official mode endorsed by VESA, meaning it will not be adopted by other vendors. However, it's possible that other manufacturers like Asus and Gigabyte may develop their own interpretations of EOTF Boost in the future.

MSI is expanding the availability of its proprietary EOTF Boost mode to more outgoing QD-OLED gaming monitors this month. The company has not clarified which specific models will be getting the new EOTF Boost mode.

For those interested in experiencing the benefits of EOTF Boost, enabled models can be accessed through the monitor's menu options. This update marks a significant step forward in MSI's commitment to delivering top-tier gaming experiences to its customers.
