Vodafone Expands Mobile Network in Segeberg District

Vodafone Germany, one of the leading communications conglomerates in the country, is continuing its nationwide digital infrastructure development with a focus on the Segeberg district. The telecom giant aims to expand its existing mobile network, particularly by upgrading stations to 5G.

In a recent development, Vodafone has put a new mobile communications station online in Alveslohe, eliminating a dead zone in mobile broadband coverage. This move has connected an estimated 3,000 residents and guests to Vodafone's mobile data highway for the first time.

The new antennas support the latest variants of the emergency call technology AML and the disaster warning system Cell Broadcast. AML automatically transmits the caller's location to the emergency control center when calling the "112" emergency number, while Cell Broadcast technology warns the surrounding population via smartphone of danger situations such as large fires, gas explosions, or floods.

By mid-2026, Vodafone plans to implement a total of three more mobile communications construction projects in the district. These projects are aimed at closing dead zones, strengthening the existing network, and further expanding the 5G network. The exact locations of these planned expansions have not been disclosed yet, but municipalities such as Trappenkamp and Schmalfeld are expected to benefit from this expansion.

Vodafone's Chief Technology Officer, Tanja Richter, stated that mobile communications are a piece of quality of life and an important infrastructure factor for the local economy and jobs. The company is committed to being carbon neutral by 2025 and emission-free by 2040, and currently covers 100% of its electricity needs with renewable energies.

In addition to the new stations, Vodafone will also install additional antennas for LTE and 5G at existing sites to create larger network capacities. The next concrete plan for expansion is a 5G upgrade of the radio site in the municipality of Norderstedt.

Vodafone's network reaches two-thirds of all German households with gigabit speed in its nationwide cable-fiber network. The company's machine network (Narrowband IoT) covers more than 97% of German territory for industry and business.

For precise and up-to-date details about Vodafone’s network rollout in Segeberg, it is recommended to consult Vodafone Germany’s official announcements or local government infrastructure plans for the district, which often publish detailed schedules and locations of telecom infrastructure projects.

  • Vodafone's expansion in the Segeberg district includes upgrading stations to 5G, not just mobile networks, also aiming to provide better connectivity for smartphones and various gadgets.
  • The upcoming construction projects in the district, such as the one in Norderstedt, aim to create larger network capacities for 5G, ensuring faster internet speeds for gadgets like smartphones.
