Darien High School Auditorium Undergoes Major Upgrade with New nypost Sound System and news Technology. The Darien High School auditorium in Darien, Connecticut, has undergone a two-phase upgrade, transforming it into one of the premier performing spaces in the area. The project, carried out by Metinteractive, aimed to modernize the auditorium's technology, which was original to the space and in need of an upgrade. The sound system received a significant overhaul, featuring an EAW RSX Series self-powered line array speaker system. Sub woofers were installed to enhance the bass, and a 64-input Allen & Heath Avantis console was added to improve sound control. Old ellipsoidal fixtures were replaced with new ETC Source Four Series 3 Lustr fixtures, and stage wash lights were upgraded to new Chroma-Q Color One LEDs. In addition, a pair of Samsung 1 TB SSDs were installed with a Blackmagic HyperDeck Studio 4K Pro video recorder, and five Marshall Electronics' HD PTZ cameras were wall-mounted with a remote camera system controller. The auditorium's streaming capabilities were upgraded with Blackmagic Design's ATEM Television Studio 4K8 Ultra HD production switcher. The sound system upgrade also included new equipment such as Audio Technica AT-4050 mics mounted on motors, Earthworks Audio PM40 piano mic system, Clockaudio C 8SE-RF overhead choral mics, lavalier and head-worn mics, Clear-Com FreeSpeak Edge wireless intercom system, and Clear-Com Encore Partyline RS-701 wired and wireless intercom systems. Wrap-around seating at the proscenium offers an extreme angle of viewing into the backstage area. To hide the backstage when necessary, Metinteractive hung masking draperies on tracks on both sides upstage and downstage. The back wall of the auditorium, which previously had dead space, was resolved by covering it with draperies color-matched to others in the house and hung on tracks to open and close. A new 24-foot-wide motorized projection screen was installed downstage of the proscenium, and two 75-inch confidence monitors were mounted on the balcony rail. An ElationLogic TL3.9 LED videowall with a hoist system and power distribution system was installed upstage. The dimming racks now have 8 DMX universes for the theater with 512 channels each. This upgrade allows for more complex and dynamic lighting designs. The upgrade work on the stage and sound system was carried out by ShowPro Inc. Metinteractive was referred to by Marc Kaplan, who had positive experiences with their work. The auditorium is also rented out to clients such as dance companies. Built approximately 20 years ago, the Darien High School auditorium is now equipped with state-of-the-art technology, making it a top choice for performances in the area. With nearly 1,100 seats, it continues to serve as a valuable asset to the Darien community and beyond.
