Meta's Ray-Ban Smart Glasses to Get Display in 2025

Meta is set to revolutionize the smart glasses market with an upcoming update to its Ray-Ban meta glasses. The company plans to integrate a display into the popular eyewear, marking a significant step towards its goal of creating lightweight, low-impact augmented reality (AR) glasses.

Meta's Ray-Ban meta glasses, launched in 2021, have already made waves with their Bluetooth audio capabilities and decent camera. However, the lack of a screen has limited their functionality. The addition of a display, rumored to happen as soon as next year, will transform these glasses into a truly next-gen, standalone wearable.

The display will be used for delivering notifications and showing responses from Meta's AI. This will make the glasses more helpful and versatile, allowing users to interact with their devices hands-free. Meta AI in the glasses will provide computer vision and other tools like live translation, further enhancing their utility.

Mark Zuckerberg, Meta's CEO, has long believed in the potential of smart glasses as the 'next major computing platform'. The company is pushing the boundaries of this technology to remain at the forefront of the burgeoning smart glasses market. Samsung is also rumored to be developing its own pair of smart glasses that could potentially outperform the Ray-Bans, adding to the competitive landscape.

Meta's plans to add a display to its Ray-Ban meta glasses are expected to launch in the US in late September 2025, with a rollout in other countries like Canada, France, Italy, and the UK scheduled for early 2026. This update will bring the Ray-Ban meta glasses closer to Meta's ultimate vision of AR glasses that are lightweight, low-impact, and truly integrated into our daily lives.
