Meta's New AI Chat Personalizes Ads on Instagram, Facebook, and Threads
Meta is rolling out a new way to personalize ads on Instagram, Facebook, and Threads. Starting December 16, the company will use text and voice chats with ChatGPT to tailor ads to users' interests. This change does not currently affect EU users, including Germany, but a future introduction is not ruled out.
Meta aims to predict user interests more accurately by analyzing data from users' conversations with ChatGPT. The company assures users that sensitive information like religious or political views, sexual orientation, health, and origin details will not be used for personalization.
Users cannot opt-out of using AI chats for personalization, but they can manage their ad preferences as usual. Linked Meta platforms' interactions with the chatbot may influence recommendations on other platforms. This move comes as a response to increasing market demand for data-driven, targeted advertising solutions in the DACH region and beyond.
