Meta's AI Chatbot Boosts Content, Apple's Siri Under French Data Probe
Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, is set to introduce an AI-powered chatbot to tailor content recommendations and targeted ads from December 16. Meanwhile, a probe is ongoing in France over claims of illegal recording of user conversations by Apple's Siri voice assistant.
The investigation, led by the French public prosecutor's office, was sparked by a complaint from the 'League for Human Rights'. The organisation acted on claims by former contractor Thomas Le Bonnec, who alleged he was tasked with analysing Siri recordings to improve the voice assistant's responses. Le Bonnec stated some conversations could identify users.
Apple has maintained that it does not use Siri data for marketing purposes, nor does it share it with advertising services or sell it to third parties. A company representative in France reiterated this stance.
Meta's AI chatbot will soon enhance user experiences on Facebook and Instagram. Meanwhile, the investigation into Apple's Siri recording practices continues, with the tech giant denying any misuse of user data.
