Smart City Expo Kuala Lumpur 2025: Shaping the Digital Future of Southeast Asia

The Smart City Expo Kuala Lumpur 2025 (SCEKL 2025) is set to take place at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from September 17 to 19. This landmark event is being spearheaded by Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB), a Malaysian state-owned company focused on expanding the country's 5G network infrastructure.

The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), a government agency leading the digital transformation of the country's economy, is also involved in SCEKL 2025. The Kuala Lumpur edition of the expo aims to drive conversations about AI and 5G applications in infrastructure, disaster management, urban development, and more.

SCEKL 2025 aligns with Malaysia's 2025 Asean chairmanship theme of 'Inclusivity and Sustainability'. Datuk Ahmad Zaki Zahid, chief corporate officer for Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) in Malaysia, stated that the goal of SCEKL 2025 is to use technology and artificial intelligence to enhance urban living, beyond just infrastructure development.

Public-private partnerships are considered key to the digital drive in SCEKL 2025. The event is expected to showcase innovative solutions and ideas for smart city development, attracting attendees from various sectors, including government, industry, and academia.

SCEKL 2025 goes beyond Malaysia's goal of becoming a smart nation by 2040. It aims to address the unique challenges and opportunities in the Southeast Asian region, providing opportunities for collaboration and partnerships in the field of smart city development.

SCEKL 2025 is the first Southeast Asian edition of the Smart City Expo World Congress, originally established in Barcelona in 2011. This event is focused on improving how people live, work, and thrive in cities through the use of technology and artificial intelligence.

As Malaysia, as the current Asean chair, strengthens the regional focus on digitalisation, sustainability, and inclusive development, SCEKL 2025 is poised to play a significant role in shaping the digital future of Southeast Asia.
