Live on the blockchain test network: Unstablenet's Intelligent Contract Testing Platform

The Shardeum blockchain is set to revolutionise smart contract development with the launch of Unstablenet, an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible testnet, on July 24, 2025. This innovative platform is designed to empower developers and users to test, build, and innovate alongside the website, shaping the evolution of the platform as the world's first dynamically state sharded smart contract platform.

Unstablenet offers a safe, low-risk environment for developers to launch, test, and refine their decentralized applications (dApps) before deploying them on the mainnet. This testnet mimics mainnet conditions, allowing for iterative testing and debugging to ensure robustness and performance of dApps within Shardeum's scalable, sharded Layer 1 blockchain ecosystem.

While community-run nodes are planned for the future, they will not be available at the initial launch of Unstablenet. The ultimate goal of Unstablenet is to enable various applications, such as machine learning models and gaming platforms, that were previously not feasible on blockchains.

To interact with Unstablenet, users need a wallet such as MetaMask configured with the RPC details provided. Users can deploy and test Solidity smart contracts, evaluate smart contract interactions, and participate in quests, interactive dApp contests, and bounties on Unstablenet. The gas estimation mechanism defaults to a fixed value of 3 million for smart contract calls, and users may need to set a higher custom gas limit manually.

The RPC details for Unstablenet include a network name, RPC endpoint, chain ID, explorer URL, and instructions for claiming test SHM and reporting bugs. Users are encouraged to follow the official social channels for real-time updates and to collaborate, discuss, and ask questions about Unstablenet.

In the future, the website plans to introduce incentives to recognise and support community contributions to Unstablenet. Fixes and feature updates will be rolled out progressively by the tech team as they are ready. Unstablenet will eventually transition into a community-operated testnet.

Smart contract functionality on the mainnet will be available after the successful completion of the testnet phase. This marks an exciting step forward for the Shardeum blockchain, as Unstablenet paves the way for a new era of smart contract development and deployment.

  1. The innovative platform, Unstablenet, will enable various applications, such as machine learning models and gaming platforms, using technology that were previously not feasible on blockchains.
  2. To effectively interact with Unstablenet, users need a wallet like MetaMask configured with the provided RPC details, which includes technology like Solidity smart contracts for deployment and testing.
