LG Innotek Collaborates with U.S. LiDAR Company Aeva in Anticipatory Market Domination Strategy

In a significant move for the autonomous driving industry, LG Innotek and Aeva have announced a strategic partnership to develop and commercialize next-generation 4D LiDAR technology. The partnership was officially announced on July 29, 2025, and will focus on the production and joint development of Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) LiDAR technology.

Aeva, a leading LiDAR technology company, has been producing 4D LiDAR since 2022 and counts major automakers such as Daimler Truck among its customers. The company developed the world's first 4D LiDAR based on FMCW technology, which offers simultaneous measurement of distance, velocity, and material properties with higher resolution and reduced interference.

LG Innotek, a global electronics manufacturer, will contribute its manufacturing scale, cross-industry expertise, and production infrastructure to the partnership. The first product LG Innotek will manufacture and supply to Aeva is an ultra-slim, ultra-long-range FMCW LiDAR module that can detect objects up to 500 meters away.

The LiDAR module was developed to be mounted behind the front windshield of the vehicle, offering automotive customers greater design freedom. Compared to existing LiDAR products, the size of the module was reduced by 44%.

The partnership is seen as a catalyst for mass-market adoption of 4D LiDAR. Soroush Salehian, CEO of Aeva, stated that the partnership underscores the growing recognition of FMCW as the future of sensing and perception technology. Hyuksoo Moon, CEO of LG Innotek, mentioned that the ultimate goal of the partnership is for both companies to grow as key players in the next-generation LiDAR market.

The global LiDAR market is currently experiencing rapid growth. According to recent projections, the market size is estimated to be around USD 868 million to USD 2.8 billion in 2024-2025, depending on the segment focus. Projections indicate a strong compound annual growth rate (CAGR) ranging from about 18.85% to over 50% in certain segments, with values expected to reach anywhere between USD 6.6 billion to nearly USD 12 billion by the early 2030s.

The partnership between Aeva and LG Innotek is expected to accelerate this growth, particularly in the automotive LiDAR market, which was valued at about USD 868 million in 2024 and is expected to grow to USD 11.9 billion by 2032 at a CAGR of 50.4%. The partnership aims to produce FMCW LiDAR for autonomous driving cars, robots, robo-taxis, and industrial automation by the end of 2027.

The FMCW LiDAR technology's ability to detect distance and velocity simultaneously, coupled with interference immunity and compactness, is critical for achieving reliable Level 3/4 autonomous driving systems, which are expected to become mainstream by late this decade. This partnership represents a significant step towards commercializing 4D FMCW LiDAR technology, which promises superior performance and scalability essential for mass-market autonomous vehicle adoption and other industry uses in the near future.

A fireside chat will follow the event, discussing the significance of the partnership, technical collaboration, and strategies for maximizing synergy between the two companies. Key executives from both companies, including CEOs and CTOs, will attend the event.
