Leaked iPad Pro M5 Tablets Raise Security Concerns for Apple

Unreleased iPad Pro M5 tablets have surfaced on YouTube in Russia, raising concerns about a potential security breach at Apple's European warehouses. The company is currently investigating the incident.

The tablets, set to run iPadOS 26, were showcased online before their official launch. They featured a design nearly identical to the previous generation, with the 'iPad Pro' label removed. Notably, they were able to connect to Apple's servers and install region-specific Russian applications, indicating they were not mere prototypes.

Benchmark tests reveal a significant performance boost, with a 12-15% CPU gain and up to 35% faster graphics processing compared to the M4 model. This suggests the stolen tablets are indeed the upcoming iPad Pro M5.

Apple suspects the devices were diverted from distribution centers in Europe. This is not the first time Russian smugglers have been linked to such activities, with previous investigations uncovering their involvement in bypassing EU sanctions on luxury cars.

As of October 2023, no specific group or individual has been identified as responsible for the theft. Apple is actively investigating the security lapse. The incident serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by companies in securing their products, especially high-value items like unreleased tech devices.
