Leaked Docs: Russia's Rostec May Sell Advanced Fighter Jets to Iran and Algeria
Hacker group NoName057 has allegedly leaked internal documents from Russian state corporation Rostec, revealing potential sales of advanced fighter jets to Iran and Algeria. The deal, if confirmed, could be one of Russia's largest fighter exports in a decade.
The documents, whose authenticity remains unverified, suggest Iran could acquire 48 Su-35s and Algeria 12 Su-57Es. These jets are among Russia's most advanced, with the Su-57 being its first stealth-capable fighter. If the deal goes through, it would significantly bolster Iran's air capabilities and mark Algeria's first acquisition of stealth aircraft.
The potential sale comes amidst a decline in Russia's arms exports. Between 2021 and 2024, exports dropped by 92%, with the number of buyers falling to just 12 due to the war in Ukraine. The leaked documents, however, align with earlier export rumors and Rostec's pricing patterns, lending credibility to their authenticity.
While the leaked documents suggest substantial fighter jet sales to Iran and Algeria, their authenticity remains unconfirmed. If accurate, these deals could signal a resurgence in Russia's arms exports, despite the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Both countries stand to gain significantly from these acquisitions, enhancing their military capabilities.
