Latest AI Business Updates – July 29, 2025

OpenAI's latest AI model, GPT-5, is set to revolutionise the field with its advanced capabilities, scheduled for launch in early to mid-August 2025. This groundbreaking model is anticipated to offer significant improvements over previous versions, including major upgrades in reasoning, memory, and multimodal capabilities that can handle text, images, and voice inputs.

The GPT-5 model is currently being tested under the name "gpt-5-reasoning-alpha-2025-07-13". It boasts a massive context window of up to 1 million tokens, enabling much more extensive and coherent interactions. The model aims to unify several AI functions such as agent-like task automation and improved unified reasoning, making it substantially more powerful and intelligent—reportedly about 100 times smarter than GPT-4[1][2][4].

Key features of GPT-5 include unified capabilities for reasoning and multimodal features, integration of o3 reasoning capabilities, significantly expanded context windows, and multiple pricing tiers. These features make GPT-5 well-positioned to address a wide range of applications across coding, research, conversational AI, and other complex tasks[3].

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has expressed strong enthusiasm about GPT-5’s capabilities, even stating the responses made him feel "useless" compared to the AI, signaling a breakthrough leap in performance[1][3]. Access to GPT-5 is already available through platforms like OpenRouter.ai (Quasar Alpha) for free use without signup, reflecting OpenAI’s goal to widely distribute this technology[2].

Meanwhile, there has been developer backlash over the lack of communication and transparency regarding rate limits imposed on some users[8]. Less than 5% of subscribers are expected to be affected by these rate limits based on current usage patterns[6]. Max plan subscribers can purchase additional usage at API rates[7]. Similarly, Anthropic is implementing weekly rate limits for its Claude Pro and Max plans starting August 28[4].

The rapid evolution of AI capabilities, infrastructure challenges, and the growing tension between democratizing access and managing computational resources effectively are highlighted by these developments[19]. Other players in the AI industry, such as Microsoft, Amazon, and SoftBank, are also making significant strides. Microsoft positions agents as "the apps of the AI era"[15], while Walmart has consolidated its AI strategy with 'Super Agents'[14]. Amazon has introduced new "agentic AI" capabilities to automate complex, multi-step business processes[13].

OpenAI has also shown its commitment to social responsibility by launching a $50 million fund to support nonprofits[16]. These advancements in AI technology are set to reshape industries and daily life, making AI an increasingly integral part of our world.
