Kochi City's Water Supply System Gets Major Upgrade by SUEZ

The Kerala Water Authority (KWA) has awarded a significant contract to SUEZ for the upgrade, operations, and maintenance of Kochi City's water supply system. This move aims to secure 24/7 access to safe and reliable drinking water for the city's nearly 700,000 residents.

The 10-year contract, jointly financed by the Asian Development Bank and the Government of Kerala, covers approximately 95 sq. km. within the Kochi Municipal Corporation, including 146,500 service connections. SUEZ will manage routine operations, preventive and reactive maintenance, leak detection, and complaint management services. The company will also replace dilapidated water distribution networks to achieve a pressurized water supply around the clock.

To enhance operational efficiency, SUEZ will deploy modern technologies such as remote water meter-reading and a real-time operational performance monitoring system. Additionally, SUEZ aims to reduce Non-Revenue Water losses to 20%, aligning with national service level benchmarks. The initiative, led by Mr. Jeevan Babu K. IAS, Managing Director of KWA, seeks to optimize water production and distribution services, thereby improving water availability and quality for Kochi's residents.

The KWA's decision to entrust SUEZ with Kochi City's water supply system upgrade and maintenance is expected to significantly improve water access and quality. The 10-year project, funded by the Asian Development Bank and the Government of Kerala, is set to benefit the city's inhabitants by providing them with a reliable and efficient water supply system.
