Kiel Police Warn of Rising 'Shock Calls' Scam

The Kiel Police Directorate has issued a warning about a sharp rise in 'shock calls' in their area since last weekend. These calls involve criminals impersonating police officers, attempting to mislead victims into believing a nearby burglary has occurred.

The fraudsters then provide false safety tips, such as advising victims to keep doors and windows locked, while trying to extract information about valuable items in the household. Fortunately, no successful crimes have been reported so far, as all victims have reacted correctly by ending the calls and promptly contacting the police.

The Kiel Police Directorate has provided guidance on the matter, reminding residents to be vigilant and not to reveal any personal or valuable information over the phone to unsolicited callers, regardless of their claimed identity.

While no successful crimes have been reported, the Kiel Police Directorate urges residents to remain cautious and follow their guidance to prevent any potential future incidents. If you receive such a call, hang up immediately and contact the police.
