Kazakhstan President Meets UN, ITU to Boost Digital Cooperation
Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with top officials from the United Nations and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to discuss digital and telecommunication technologies. The meetings focused on future cooperation, infrastructure development, and global market situations.
Tokayev discussed the future of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the UN, particularly with the ITU. The ITU expressed readiness to strengthen its partnership and expand joint initiatives. The President also met with OPEC Secretary General Haitham Al Ghais to talk about the global oil market and potential collaboration.
Doreen Bogdan-Martin, ITU Secretary-General, praised Kazakhstan's efforts in developing its digital industry and adopting AI technologies. Tokayev, in turn, congratulated her on the 160th anniversary of the ITU, acknowledging its role in global digital cooperation. The parties debated ways to enhance cooperation in digital and telecommunication technologies.
Kazakhstan's active involvement in low Earth orbit satellite systems, such as OneWeb, Starlink, Amazon Kuiper, and Shanghai Spacecom, was also a topic of discussion. Tokayev emphasized the importance of building a modern digital ecosystem and developing infrastructure in Kazakhstan.
The meetings resulted in a shared commitment to strengthen ties between Kazakhstan and international organizations in the digital and telecommunication sectors. Both parties agreed to explore further collaboration opportunities, with Kazakhstan's digital development and infrastructure enhancement being key areas of focus.
