Kazakh Students Shine at AI Olympiad as President Meets Local Innovators

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with winners of the international AI Olympiad in Beijing. Kazakh students secured an impressive 4th place in the unofficial medal count, surpassing countries like China and the US. Their performance was particularly notable at the 2022 International Olympiad on Artificial Intelligence (IOAI), where they won 3 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze medals.

The IOAI, held this year in Beijing, attracted over 280 young researchers and developers from more than 60 countries. Meanwhile, local startup Defect AI is aiding medical professionals by reducing time spent on routine documentation, allowing them to focus more on patient care. Another local AI project, AltBridge, is monitoring investment portfolios on public markets and providing detailed reports for each sector.

In Tuttlingen, LAB-Biomechanic at Aesculap is developing a portable AI laboratory for biomechanics. Using modified sensor technology and wearable sensors, the lab aims to prevent injuries and accelerate rehabilitation for both athletes and patients.

President Tokayev reviewed presentations of these domestic AI projects, highlighting the country's growing prowess in the field. Kazakh students' achievements at the IOAI further cement the nation's status as a global leader in AI education and innovation.
