WhatsApp Now Available as Standalone App for iPad: No More Phone Tethering

Berlin - WhatsApp users can now enjoy the messaging service directly on their iPads, freeing themselves from the need for a constant phone connection. The new standalone app is accessible through the device's App Store.

Prior to this latest update, iPad users had to rely on the web version of WhatsApp, with the caveat that their phone had to remain connected at all times. The fresh app brings all familiar functions to the iPad, including synchronization of chats across devices with the smartphone.

Added Controls and Multi-tasking Benefits

The app is compatible with the iPad's Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil, allowing for an enhanced user experience. The larger iPad screen also serves as a definite advantage. Even when the multi-tasking function is activated, enabling simultaneous use of multiple apps, the WhatsApp messenger remains fully functional. This means users can multitask, such as creating notes or shopping, without any restrictions.

Cross-platform Availability

WhatsApp is already available as a standalone app for smartphones and Mac. For now, users are still awaiting a standalone Instagram app for Apple's tablets.

Enrichment Data:Meta is reportedly working on a native iPad app for Instagram, according to The Information. This could potentially mark a shift in Meta's mobile strategy, however, no official announcement has been made to confirm this development as of yet. Until then, iPad users will have to continue using the iPhone version of Instagram on their devices.

The new WhatsApp standalone app on iPad offers a seamless user experience, as it integrates smart-home-devices, gadgets, and technology enabling multi-tasking benefits while maintaining full functionality, even with the iPad's split-screen view. Additionally, WhatsApp, being cross-platform, is already available as a standalone app for smartphones and Mac, with reports suggesting Meta is developing a native iPad app for Instagram in the near future.
