The Chinese automaker Nio is gearing up for the launch of its latest electric vehicle (EV), the Onvo L90, a full-size SUV targeting the mass market. The vehicle will start deliveries on August 1, 2025, following pre-sales that begin in July.
Produced by Nio's sub-brand Onvo, the L90 shares the NT 3.0 platform with the smaller Onvo L60 and was officially unveiled at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show. The L90 is notable for being the lightest in its class, weighing approximately 2,250 kg in its lightest configuration.
The L90 measures approximately 5.145 meters in length, 1.998 meters in width, and 1.786 meters in height, maintaining classic SUV proportions. It offers spacious seating options for six or seven passengers and features an exceptionally large 240-liter front trunk (frunk) along with 670 liters of cabin storage.
The powertrain includes a rear-wheel-drive model with a 340 kW (460 hp) motor and an all-wheel-drive version adding a 100 kW front motor, totaling up to 440 kW (roughly 590 hp) in the AWD variant. The battery options include an 85.1 kWh NMC pack with a CLTC range of up to 605 km (376 miles) in RWD and 570 km (354 miles) AWD; a 60.6 kWh LFP battery is also available with a range of 410–425 km (255–264 miles) in AWD configuration.
Pricing for the Onvo L90 starts at RMB 279,900 (about $39,000 USD) including the 85-kWh battery pack, making it competitively priced for a large electric SUV in China. Under the Battery as a Service (BaaS) scheme, which separates battery costs from the vehicle price, the starting price can drop to RMB 193,900.
The Onvo L90 comes with advanced features such as a Head-Up Display (HUD) instead of a traditional instrument cluster, wireless charging pads, a gear shifter behind the steering wheel, and advanced safety technology with 45 industry-leading features including Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB). The vehicle is equipped with the NT.Coconut 2.0 ONVO Smart System offering a cohesive smart cabin, driving, and vehicle control experience.
Nio has been making strides in its production capabilities, with its 300,000th vehicle rolling off the production line on December 12, 2022, and a daily production volume of 435 units. The Onvo L60 fastback electric SUV began production in August 2023, further boosting the production volume.
