BYD's FCB brand has unveiled the official images of the high-end version of its Tai 7 hardcore off-road SUV, marking another addition to the brand's growing lineup. Following the Bao 5, Bao 8, and Tai 3, the Tai 7 is the fourth model in the FCB family.
The Tai 7 boasts a unique square shape design, featuring thick bumpers, rectangular headlights, roof racks, double L-shape taillight group, and a small rear external box for additional storage. The interior is adorned with a large central control screen, a four-spoke multi-function steering wheel, and a predominantly black and orange accent design.
Under the hood, the Tai 7 utilizes a plug-in hybrid system consisting of a 1.5T engine, electric motors, and BYD's Blade battery packs. The 1.5T engine, BYD472ZQB, produces a maximum power of 115 kW (154 hp). The front motor, TZ210XYC, outputs 160 kW (215 hp), while the rear motor, TZ200XSBN, produces a substantial 200 kW (268 hp). The SUV is available in both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations.
In terms of battery capacity and range, details have yet to be revealed. However, the AWD version is powered by a 35.6 kWh battery pack offering an electric range of up to 180 km under the Chinese CLTC testing cycle. The RWD version features a smaller 26.6 kWh battery with an electric range of approximately 135 km. The combined range exceeds 1,300 km when fully fueled and charged.
The Tai 7 is expected to enter the market later this year, with a price range of around 300,000 yuan (41,780 USD). It is not yet confirmed if the SUV will be launched outside of China.
Meanwhile, China's H1 2025 auto sales show domestic brands leading in sales below 34,750 USD, while the premium market remains with international giants. In related news, BYD's luxury brand, Yangwang, is set to follow Denza in entering Europe, and the Tai 7, along with Yangwang, is expected to enter Europe in 2026.
Additionally, the launch of BYD's Dynasty large SUV is expected in China by the end of 2025. The Tai 7 has body dimensions of 4,999/1,995/1,865 mm, respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,920 mm, with a standard five-seater layout.
