However, the consequences seemed to fall short for the sector insiders, with Renaud Lifchitz, a renowned cybersecurity and cryptocurrency expert, deeming the proposed solutions "insufficient." Among the recommendations by the Ministry of the Interior was the intensification of cryptocurrency traceability, a move that Lifchitz believes is counterproductive.
"We want more privacy, not increased traceability," asserts Lifchitz.
His criticism extends to certain regulations, one of which compels the collection of individuals' identities, home addresses, and cryptocurrency addresses in the same digital files. This, Lifchitz maintains, exposes vulnerable information unnecessarily.
"Treating symptoms, not the disease"
The Ministry's additional proposal of priority access to the 17, the police-emergency number, fails to quell Lifchitz's concerns. "Once you're kidnapped, it's already too late," he states, implying that the current measures only address the repercussions, not the root causes.
He suggests that the issue should instead be tackled structurally, such as by refraining from disclosing sensitive information about affluent individuals on the internet or in secure databases.
