Increased sales of SPOT and satellite IoT devices by 35% year-on-year observed in 2024 by Telesat Communications on a global scale
The sales of Globalstar's devices at Global Telesat Communications (GTC), a UK-based wireless and satellite technology reseller, have witnessed a significant boost. The surge in sales, which comes from a mix of individual consumers and organizations, is particularly noticeable in the category of SPOT and satellite IoT devices.
According to the latest figures, sales of these devices have increased by 35% compared to the same period in 2023. This trend is evident not only in the consumer market but also in the commercial sector, with GTC seeing an increase in sales of Globalstar's commercial IoT devices.
In fact, GTC has sold over 10,800 Globalstar devices in 2024, with the bestseller among these being the SmartOne C. This milestone comes shortly after Globalstar announced the 10,000th rescue worldwide, thanks to the reliable and ubiquitous satellite-enabled tracking and SOS capabilities in Globalstar's product portfolio.
Mark O'Connell, the EMEA and APAC general manager of Globalstar, expresses pride in the partnership between Globalstar and GTC. He attributes this success to the popularity of SPOT Gen4, SPOT X, SPOT Trace, and SmartOne C satellite IoT transmitters, which are driving the increase in sales.
The organizations choosing SPOT include utilities suppliers, civil and national defence organisations, and humanitarian aid NGOs. GTC has also seen demand from parties operating in regions affected by political instability or conflict. A recent example is a customer who procured a large number of SmartOne C units from GTC to monitor oil and gas pipelines.
The increase in sales is largely driven by Globalstar's strategic investments in infrastructure, partnerships, and the growing demand across various industries for reliable satellite IoT connectivity. Globalstar reported an 11% year-over-year revenue increase to $67.1 million in Q2 2025, with strong growth in IoT services as a key contributor.
Key factors contributing to this growth include strategic partnerships with major players like Apple, infrastructure expansion, launch services agreements for new replacement satellites with SpaceX, and technological offerings beyond SPOT GPS messengers.
Industries increasingly using Globalstar SPOT satellite IoT devices include agriculture, logistics and supply chain, military and national security, consumer markets, and critical infrastructure and utilities. The ease of use and economical price are the key drivers in accelerated uptake, according to David Phipps, the managing director of GTC and the CEO of global operations of NextPlat Corp.
In summary, Globalstar's growth in SPOT satellite IoT device sales is fueled by expanded satellite network capabilities, strategic partnerships opening new markets, and providing diverse IoT solutions tailored for industries requiring ubiquitous, secure, and low-latency satellite connectivity. GTC reached a total of 45,000 Globalstar device sales overall in May 2024, marking a significant achievement in the partnership between the two companies.
The surge in sales of Globalstar's devices at GTC is not limited to individual consumers, but also extends to various industries, like finance, where utilities suppliers are among the organizations adopting Globalstar's SPOT devices. In data-and-cloud-computing sectors, national defence organizations and humanitarian aid NGOs are also recognizing the value of Globalstar's satellite IoT devices.
