Improved Mobile Network Coverage in Saarbrücken's Regional Association by Telekom
Deutsche Telekom AG, headquartered in Frankfurt am Main, has announced an enhancement of its mobile network in the Saarbrücken district, improving mobile coverage and enhancing emergency services.
The expansion involves deploying advanced 5G networks and signal distribution technologies, such as private 5G networks and Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), to provide better outdoor and indoor coverage. These solutions complement existing Wi-Fi infrastructure and replace unreliable networks, ensuring consistent connectivity in industrial and urban environments.
Specifically, Deutsche Telekom and other operators are investing in localized, high-capacity 5G networks that cover over 100% of the population in the Saarbrücken district. These private 5G solutions support critical communications for public safety and emergency services, facilitating wide-area, low-latency, and robust communications networks essential for first responders.
In addition, technologies like DAS are being used to overcome signal blockages caused by large buildings or complex urban environments. By redistributing signals inside these structures through networks of antennas, DAS significantly enhances coverage and capacity, ensuring mobile users—including emergency responders—maintain reliable connections indoors and in challenging locations.
The new mobile site in Kleinblittersdorf also serves the railway line between Rhineland-Palatinate South and Saarland. Three existing sites in the district have been expanded with LTE, and one with 5G. As a result, the mobile network now serves 134 locations in the Saarbrücken district.
Julia della Peruta, spokesperson for Deutsche Telekom, states that the demand for bandwidth is increasing by around 30% per year, so they continue to push ahead with mobile network expansion. Notably, the coverage of the enhanced network has been improved along the A620, A623, and the railway line between Rhineland-Palatinate South and Saarland. This expansion has increased the supply of households with fast mobile internet to around 100% in the Saarbrücken district.
Telekom's mobile network in Germany has been confirmed as the best by specialist magazines Chip, connect, ComputerBild, and Imtest. Emergency calls and warnings are now possible at all locations in the enhanced network in the Saarbrücken district.
In summary, Deutsche Telekom's expansion efforts in the Saarbrücken district involve deploying advanced 5G networks and signal distribution technologies that improve coverage quality and ensure the reliability of emergency service communications. This network enhancement supports both everyday users and critical public safety applications effectively.
