The Cleon factory, located in France, has made a significant mark in the automotive industry, producing innovative engines and gearboxes for Renault and its partners. The factory's latest achievement is the production of the 5A engine, the first of its kind built without the use of rare earths.

With a rich history dating back to 1958, the Cleon plant has manufactured a staggering 100 million engines and gearboxes to date. The factory's modernisation efforts are evident in its advanced manufacturing processes, which now include 648 robots, including 89 collaborative robots, working alongside human counterparts.

The factory's transformation extends to its foundry work, which has moved from low pressure circuits to products that integrate high pressure circuits. This modernisation has allowed the factory to produce a wide variety of parts, including 50 families of parts machined each day. These parts range from camshafts, valve covers, and crankshafts for internal combustion engines, to drive shafts, transaxles, and electric motor components.

The introduction of the 6A engine, fitted to the Megane E-Tech and the All-new Scenic E-Tech electric, represents a significant leap forward. The engine underwent extensive inspections, with 1,800 inspection points on the 6A engine alone.

The Cleon factory's commitment to technological progress is evident in its integration of robotics and human/machine interfaces. Collaborative robots at the Cleon factory work directly with humans in a shared space, enhancing efficiency and precision.

The factory's focus on electrification is also noteworthy. It began focusing on electrification and conducted the first studies on the ZOE motor. The teeth of the pinions in the electric reduction gears of hybrid and electric vehicles were modified to reduce noise, further improving the vehicles' performance.

Over 3,000 people are currently employed in the Cleon workshops, contributing to the success of the radical transformation. The factory's commitment to staying at the cutting-edge of technological progress is evident in the opening of an electric university, dedicated to continuous learning and innovation.
