Hydrogen energy development in Malaysia receives a boost with joint efforts by FlexiH and ABA Gas.
FlexiH and ABA Gas Collaborate to Boost Hydrogen Energy in Malaysia
FlexiH Inc., a Delaware-based company headquartered in Guthrie, OK, and ABA Gas Sdn Bhd, a leading mobile natural gas provider in Malaysia, have recently announced a collaboration to accelerate hydrogen-based energy development in Malaysia. This partnership, as of July 24, 2025, aims to advance the hydrogen energy market in the region, contributing to cleaner energy solutions.
The collaboration's potential impact includes:
- Reduction in carbon emissions: By promoting hydrogen as a clean energy source, the partnership will help Malaysia move towards lower greenhouse gas emissions.
- Expediting hydrogen infrastructure and technology development: The collaboration is expected to boost the hydrogen market's growth and practical deployment within Malaysia.
While specific details on projects or targets were not provided, the collaboration aligns with regional efforts to make green hydrogen a practical and scalable energy solution. This suggests a positive outlook for Malaysia’s transition to hydrogen energy and its associated environmental benefits.
The collaboration focuses on the production of clean hydrogen from biomethane, primarily produced from Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) facilities across states in Malaysia. The FlexiH process utilizes electrodeless plasma to transform biomethane into hydrogen at ambient conditions, producing carbon black as the primary commercial byproduct.
The hydrogen produced allows the project owner to target multiple energy fuels, such as E-Ammonia, E-Methanol, E-Dimethyl Ether (E-DME), and E-Sustainable Aviation Fuel (E-SAF).
Dr. Natarianto Indrawan, FlexiH’s Founder and CEO, stated that the collaboration will mark a significant milestone for the company, as it enters one of the largest hydrogen markets in Southeast Asia, supported by strong clean energy policies provided by the Malaysian government.
With this feature, the project owner will eventually form an E-Refinery plant, especially when all the aforementioned energy fuels are generated in the same location. The collaboration between FlexiH and ABA will create green jobs in local communities across Malaysia.
The implementation of the process will further position FlexiH as a global leader in the developing hydrogen economy. ABA, on the other hand, will be affirmed as a leading clean energy provider in the region through this collaboration. The collaboration will have positive impacts on net zero aspirations through carbon reduction and new technology deployment.
The authorities and state are willing to take risks in the hydrogen push, as previously published. Malaysia, being the leading producer of global palm oil, produced more than 19 million tons in 2024. The biomethane production facilities from POME will span across the states of Malaysia, contributing to the country's renewable energy goals.
The strategic collaboration between FlexiH and ABA aims to reduce at least one million tons of carbon emissions annually. The collaboration will support Malaysia's vision to be a leading player in the hydrogen economy in the regional market.
