Hear the thunderous debut of Genesis' Le Mans Hypercar engines
The Genesis Magna Racing team has taken a significant step forward in its racing journey, with the first fire-up of its GMR-001 Hypercar taking place at the team's HQ located at the Circuit Paul Ricard in France on July 9, 2025. This milestone marks a significant milestone for the team as they prepare for the 24 Hours of Le Mans race next year.
The GMR-001 Hypercar is powered by a 3.2-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, combined with a fully integrated hybrid system developed by Hyundai Motorsport. The brand has not revealed detailed specs for the engine, but it shares technology with the 1.6-litre inline-four found in the i20 N rally car.
The chassis supplier for the GMR-001 is Oreca, based in Le Castellet near the team's shop. The car features a sophisticated design inspired by Genesis' road cars, incorporating the brand’s signature "anti-wedge" curved lines for aerodynamic and stylistic distinction, contrasting with the flatter, more angular competitors in the LMDh category.
The GMR-001 Hypercar will compete in the WEC Hypercar class for the entire 2026 season. Genesis has assembled a racing team for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with Pipo Derani and Andre Lotterer being the only drivers confirmed so far. The team is yet to announce who will complete its driver lineup for the race.
Rolling tests for the GMR-001 prototype are expected to take place next month, with the car set to make its official race debut at the 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans as part of the WEC season. The GMR-001 will compete alongside BMW, Cadillac, Porsche, and Toyota in the LMDh hypercar class.
The unveiling of the GMR-001 Hypercar marks a significant milestone for Genesis Magna Racing and serves as a testament to their commitment to the world of racing. As the team continues its preparations for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, fans and racing enthusiasts eagerly await the GMR-001's performance on the track next year.
