Harnessing hydrogen power at the Formula 1 race in Zandvoort
Renault Group, under the leadership of CEO Anouk Poelmann, is making significant strides in the Dutch market by focusing on hydrogen-powered light utility vehicles from HYVIA. This shift aligns with the trend of zero-emission mobility in the Netherlands, as the country aims to have around 30 cities become low-emission zones by 2024.
Renault Group is leveraging its Pro+ distribution network to offer these decarbonized vehicles, particularly for professionals. The first orders for hydrogen-powered light commercial vehicles have already been signed in the Netherlands, positioning Renault Group as one of the leaders in the transforming Dutch market.
HYVIA, a strategic partner of Renault Group, is also making its mark in the Netherlands. The company will provide a Renault Master Van H2-TECH to the teams of the Viry-Châtillon site for their logistic needs. HYVIA's ambition is to reach 30% of the light commercial vehicles segment in Europe by 2030. The Renault Master Van H2-TECH has been tested in several countries, including the Netherlands, France, Spain, and Germany.
In addition to Renault Group, Plug Power, led by CEO Andy Marsh, is playing a crucial role in the hydrogen revolution. Plug has been building a complete ecosystem of green hydrogen for several years, integrating the entire value chain from production to delivery. The company has deployed over 60,000 fuel cell systems and over 185 refueling stations worldwide.
Plug's ambition extends beyond North America. In Europe, Plug supports the deployment of hydrogen vehicles with HYVIA, providing its fuel cell technology and green hydrogen production. This partnership is a significant step towards Plug's goal of extending its know-how to the world of transport to develop mobility solutions powered by hydrogen.
The collaboration between Renault Group and Plug Power is not limited to the automotive industry. Plug is the partner of the BWT Alpine F1 Team™ for three years, and Alpine Motorsports Director, Bruno Famin, believes hydrogen could very well be a crucial step in the decarbonization of the next generations of Formula 1 and endurance cars.
In the Netherlands, four strategic partners for service, repair, and maintenance of hydrogen-powered light commercial vehicles have been established: Bochane Groep, Stam Autobedrijven, Terwolde, and Van Mossel. This comprehensive support network further strengthens Renault Group's commitment to offering decarbonized vehicles in the Netherlands.
Renault Group continues its objective of having the greenest mix on the market by 2030, with a particular focus on hydrogen for intensive professional use. With the support of partners like Plug and the strategic partnerships in place, Renault Group is well on its way to achieving this goal.
