Hammerhead's Karoo Now Supports Third-Party Apps
Hammerhead has rolled out a significant update for its Karoo bike computers, enabling users to install and access third-party apps directly from their device. The new feature, announced on March 6, allows cyclists to enhance their riding experience with a variety of additional functionalities.
The Karoo, known for its superior display and precise navigation, now offers even more versatility. Users can find the Extension Library from the launch page and select the apps they wish to install. This update is a result of Hammerhead's commitment to improving its products since its launch in 2017 as a software company.
Hammerhead originally introduced the Karoo 2 in 2020, which was highly praised for its outstanding user experience. Now, with the addition of third-party app support, users can enjoy features such as ride data, navigation, guided workouts, and control of electronic components, lights, or e-bikes from various developers. Some of the future third-party apps set to be available include Strava, Komoot, and TrainingPeaks. Currently, there are a handful of compatible apps, with more to be added soon.
The latest Karoo, released this year under SRAM's ownership, boasts a smartphone-quality touch screen, best-in-class maps, and quick route uploading. With the new Native Extension Library, Hammerhead opens up its platform to third-party developers, allowing for a wider range of apps and functionalities. Cyclists can now tailor their Karoo experience to suit their specific needs and preferences.
