Hackers Steal Data of 8,000 Children in Kido Nursery Chain Ransom Attack

Hackers have targeted the Kido nursery chain, stealing data of over 8,000 children. The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has described the incident as 'deeply distressing'. The hackers, who called themselves 'Radiant', demanded a ransom of around £600,000 ($809,700) in bitcoin.

The hackers made direct contact with parents by telephone, demanding the ransom. They initially published some of the stolen information on the dark web, which included photos, addresses, and names of the children. The data breach affected over 8,000 children across the Kido nursery chain. Despite their demands, the hackers did not receive any of the ransom money. In a surprising turn of events, the hackers later claimed to have deleted the stolen information and removed it from the dark web. There is no publicly available information linking the nickname 'Radiant' to specific individuals or any connections to the Kido chain.

The hackers' demands were not met, and they claimed to have deleted the stolen data. However, the incident has raised serious concerns about the security of children's personal information. The NCSC has urged all organisations to review their cybersecurity measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
