Hackers Steal Data of 8,000 Children in Kido Nursery Breach
Hackers have infiltrated the Kido nursery chain, stealing sensitive data of over 8,000 children. The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has condemned the incident, describing it as 'deeply distressing'.
The cybercriminal group, known as 'Radiant' and believed to be based in Eastern Europe, demanded a ransom of around £600,000 ($809,700) in bitcoin. They contacted parents directly by telephone, attempting to pressure them into paying. The stolen data, including children's photos, names, and addresses, was initially published on the dark web. However, the hackers later removed the data and claimed to have deleted it. Despite their demands, no ransom money was received.
The Kido nursery chain hack has raised serious concerns about child data security. The NCSC's involvement underscores the gravity of the situation. Although the hackers claim to have deleted the data, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of robust cybersecurity measures to protect sensitive information, especially that of children.
