In a surprising move, Rockstar has announced the integration of NVIDIA's DLSS 4 technology into the PC Enhanced version of Grand Theft Auto V (GTA 5), nine months before the anticipated release of GTA 6. This update comes as good news for the millions of players who are actively playing GTA 5, with a consistently growing player base.

Nvidia has also released a new Game Ready Driver (version 580.97) to enhance performance for the GTA 5 update and support Senua's Saga: Hellblade II. The update is a significant improvement for GeForce RTX 40 and 50 Series GPUs, promising to boost performance and make the game smoother in GTA 5's Enhanced version.

The upgrade includes Ray Tracing, Faster Loading, new GTA Online Hao's Special Works vehicle upgrades, improved user interface, and the Career Builder. However, it's important to note that the update does not apply to the original "Legacy" version of GTA 5, released in 2015.

At the heart of the update is NVIDIA's DLSS 4 graphics technology, which leverages AI-based neural rendering. This technology generates up to three additional frames per traditionally rendered frame, multiplying frame rates by up to 8 times compared to brute-force rendering. This enables players to run GTA 5 Enhanced at max visual settings, including high resolutions and ray tracing, while achieving far higher and smoother frame rates on GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs and laptops.

The key features and benefits of DLSS 4 include Multi Frame Generation, improved image quality, low latency, support for Ray Tracing, global and game-specific settings via the NVIDIA app, and expanded compatibility. Multi Frame Generation produces multiple frames between traditionally rendered frames, reducing motion latency and benefiting fast-paced or graphically intense scenes in GTA 5 Enhanced.

Improved image quality uses advanced AI transformer models to enhance visual fidelity, resulting in sharper details and clearer image upscaling. DLSS 4 also reduces input lag, leading to a smoother and more responsive gaming experience. When combined with NVIDIA RTX ray tracing features, DLSS 4 enables more realistic lighting, shadows, reflections, and water effects while maintaining high performance.

Users can easily enable or override DLSS 4 settings globally across all supported titles or fine-tune on a per-game basis, improving convenience and access to the best visual and performance improvements. DLSS 4 is supported in over 175 games and apps as of mid-2025, making it a valuable addition for GTA 5 PC Enhanced players who own compatible RTX GPUs.

According to NVIDIA's official press release, DLSS 4 increases GeForce RTX 50 Series frame rates by an average of 3.9X in GTA 5's Enhanced version at 4K resolution, with ray tracing and all other settings maxed out. This update reflects a significant step change in performance and visual fidelity through AI-driven frame generation and enhanced neural rendering.

As the gaming community eagerly anticipates the trailer and details about GTA 6, scheduled to launch on May 26, 2026, the latest update signifies Rockstar's continued investment in GTA V, demonstrating their commitment to providing an engaging and visually stunning gaming experience for players.
