Google's Gemini Live Service Now Available on Corporate Google Accounts for Business and Educational Purposes
Google extends Gemini Live's conversation features to work and school users on Google Workspace domains, starting today, May 9. This development allows users to engage in real-time, multimodal conversations with Gemini Live through voice, camera, or screen on their mobile devices.
The new offering is automatically enabled when Gemini app access is available, and Gemini Apps Activity must remain turned on. It's important to note that administrators have no individual control over access to Gemini Live for their employees or students, and Gemini Apps Activity is automatically enabled when Gemini app access is permitted by a Workspace. Users are unable to manually delete their activity.
Gemini Live is exclusive to Workspace users who are 18 years or older, with some student accounts potentially unable to utilize the feature due to age requirements. In contrast, the minimum age to use Gemini for personal Google accounts is 13 years old.
Google has outlined the differences in Gemini's privacy and data collection policies for work and school accounts in a recent blog post. Data retention for Google Workspace accounts is set at 18 months, with conversation history being stored on Google servers even if users choose to delete their chats. For work users with access to Gemini through an added service, the collection of Gemini Apps conversations and other user-provided information helps improve and develop Google products, services, and machine-learning technologies.
Google Workspaces with the Gemini Apps add-on share their data with the company to enhance AI features. This data sharing is specific to organizational environments and does not apply to personal accounts.
Google has reaffirmed its robust privacy commitments for Google Workspace, ensuring that generative AI does not change these commitments, including how data is used and secured across different applications like Gemini.
The expanded availability of Gemini Live comes ahead of Google I/O 2025, a developer conference scheduled this month that is expected to involve AI and Workspace features. The rollout is beginning today and may take up to 15 days for full feature visibility. The offering is available for various Google Workspace plans, add-ons, and editions, including Business Starter, Standard, Plus, Education Fundamentals, Standard, and Plus, Frontline Starter and Standard, Nonprofits, Essentials, Enterprise Essentials, and Enterprise Essentials Plus, as well as Gemini Add-ons like Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, and Education Premium.
