Google's crypto platform, Gemini, will leverage users' Google search history to uncover their genuine identities.

Unavoidable scenario: A personal assistant's effectiveness relies heavily on their ability to monitor all your activities.

Google's crypto platform, Gemini, will leverage users' Google search history to uncover their genuine identities.

** Nah, Google's been pushin' Gemini on ya again, ain't they? Here's the lowdown on the latest announcement: Google wants you to let Gemini peek at your search history. The reason? To provide you with more personalized outcomes when you're chattin' with Gemini.

Sounds a bit Orwellian, huh? Think about it like this: it's just like ol' Gmail, been serving ads based on your emails for around 2 decades now. Once you wrap your head around it, it'll feel less like a privacy breach, and more like a handy tool.

Now, Google only uses your Search history when its smart ole reasoning models think it'll actually help. Questions like "Where's a sick vacay spot?" or "Got a YouTube channel idea but stuck" are good examples. Or even ask Gemini what hobby to take up. If you change your mind, you can easily unlink your search history from Gemini without any fuss.

Wanna give it a whirl? You can turn it on through the Gemini app in your browser, but make sure you're a Gemini or Gemini Advanced subscriber first.

I decided to put it to the test and asked Gemini for content ideas for a YouTube channel. You won't believe what it suggested: smartphones, Android devices, Tamagotchi, and retro tech from eBay! It even recommended topics on parenting and mental health - that one took things to a whole new level. Gemini said:

"Your searches show interest in perimenopause, anxiety, and gentle parenting, so consider sharing experiences or resources on mental health topics."

If you decide to activate the personalization feature (and I'm givin' it a try too, being the loyal Google test subject that I am), remember to use a search engine like DuckDuckGo for any searches you don't wanna AI remember.

In other news, alongside search queries become part of the Gemini package, Google's rollin' out Gems for everyone today, even non-Gemini Advanced users. DeepResearch is now free for all, and the Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking Experimental model has been added to help Gemini handle cross-app requests between Google's various services, like Calendar and Photos. So, Gemini's gonna get better at navigating between Google's different entities, heck yeah!

  1. In the future, Google's Gemini might enable more personalized interactions based on your search history, similar to how Gmail has served ads based on emails for over two decades.
  2. The technology behind Gemini will not only peek at your search history but also use it to provide more targeted outcomes, like suggesting content ideas for a YouTube channel.
  3. As Google continues to advance Gemini, future updates could include free access to DeepResearch for all users, as well as improved cross-app navigation between Google's various services.
  4. To maintain privacy while using Gemini's personalization features, consider using a search engine like DuckDuckGo for any searches you don't want AI to remember.
