Say Goodbye to Google Duo, Hello to Google Meet
Google Duo's legacy features within Google Meet will officially be discontinued in September.

You may have used Google Duo, a popular video calling app, in the past. It got rebranded to Google Meet a while back, but it still clung onto some legacy features. These features, such as Family Mode, Moments, Mirror mode, low light mode, and Knock Knock, are set to disappear in September.
To help you transition smoothly, Google suggests exporting your call history and messages to Meet and has provided a quick guide on their support page. While some legacy features are fading away, Google Meet offers upgraded and new calling functionalities.
Enjoy the perks of live captions, in-call chat, stackable effects, cloud encryption, screen sharing, and many more. Google aspires for the shift from legacy calls to new Meet calls to be seamless, ensuring an eyesight to the future of video calls.
To make the most of Meet's new features, update your app to the latest version. Once all parties are using the updated app, you'll be notified with a prompt signaling the new calling experience. If not, the call will default to the legacy experience.

While some legacy features are being removed, some are being upgraded or replaced to provide a better overall experience.
Features Being Removed:
- Family Mode: Aimed at interactive and family-friendly calls, it will not be a part of Google Meet.
- Mirror Mode: Mirroring your video feed will no longer be accessible in Meet.
- Knock Knock: Live video feed of the caller before answering will be discontinued.
- Sending Emojis before the Call: Users will no longer be able to send emojis while setting up a call.
- Moments: A feature for capturing and sharing call moments is not available in Meet, but users can take device screenshots instead.

- Data Saving Mode: Meet now offers a new Saver Mode to help optimize data usage during calls.
- Low Light Mode: Replaced by video lighting adjustment and portrait touch-up, providing improved video quality in low-light conditions.
- Legacy Call Features: These are replaced by Meet calls, offering more features like in-call chat, live captions, screen sharing, stackable effects, add-ons, and more, depending on the user's Workspace or Google One subscription.
Devices Affected:
Nest devices like the Nest Hub Max will only continue to support legacy Duo calls and will not receive Meet calling updates.
