Glow-in-the-dark mechanical hands added as an option for preferred Garmin smartwatch models.
Garmin, a renowned manufacturer of smartwatches, has released two new models in 2025 - the Garmin Instinct Crossover AMOLED and the Garmin Instinct Crossover AMOLED Tactical Edition. The Crossover models are a niche product, offering little over the standard Garmin smartwatch, but with a unique twist.
The standard Garmin smartwatch comes in two sizes: a 45mm variant priced at $449 and a 50mm variant priced at $499. In contrast, the Crossover models are priced at a premium, with the standard model available in Charcoal or Bronze Sunburst for $649 and the Tactical Edition available in all black for $749.
The Crossover models share many features with the standard Garmin smartwatch, such as 100 meters of water resistance, a tough-built all-metal bezel, and multi-band GPS. However, they stand out with their sapphire crystal screen protection, onboard LED flashlight, and the addition of mechanical watch hands.
The mechanical watch hands on the Crossover models are coated in a high-quality glow-in-the-dark 'lume' for discreet timekeeping in dim lighting. The Crossover models also use Garmin's 'RevoDrive' technology for accurate timekeeping in rough-and-tumble environments.
In terms of battery life, the GPS battery life of the Crossover models is expected to be around 60 hours. The battery life of the smartwatch is rated at 14 to 18 days per charge in smartwatch mode. The Crossover models also support mobile payments via Garmin Pay.
The main difference between the standard Garmin smartwatch and the new Crossover model is the addition of mechanical watch hands on the Crossover. This addition, along with the premium materials used, accounts for the higher price of the Crossover models.
For those seeking a blend of traditional and modern timekeeping, the Garmin Instinct Crossover AMOLED and AMOLED Tactical Edition smartwatches offer an intriguing option. With their robust design, unique features, and Garmin's reputation for quality, these smartwatches are poised to appeal to a niche market.
